Women in Aviation Cargo: Leading with Innovation and Impact
Aviation cargo is more than just moving goods—it’s about strategy, innovation, and resilience. Across the industry, women are taking on leadership roles, shaping the future of logistics, and proving that no challenge is too great. From optimizing supply chains to driving sustainability and leveraging data for smarter decision-making, these women are making a lasting impact.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we highlight four inspiring professionals—Kimberly Kendrick, Hélène Goury, Lizbeth Garcia Avila, and Eng. Rana Algowaiz—who are breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible in cargo. Their journeys showcase the determination, creativity, and leadership that are driving the industry forward.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is balancing my career with being a mother of three. At times, it felt like standing out was difficult when others could dedicate more hours. But I found my own path by being observant—identifying challenges and creating solutions no one else had. That’s what makes this job so rewarding.
To young women considering aviation or cargo, my advice is simple: explore everything. This industry is vast, with so many moving parts. The more you understand about different roles, the better you’ll be at your own. Don’t limit yourself—try new areas, learn from others, and embrace every opportunity.
Cargo isn’t just about warehouses—it’s about evolution. The work is constantly changing, and that’s what makes it exciting.
Embarking on my journey with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo as a sustainability manager has been both challenging and deeply fulfilling. In an industry that plays a vital role in global trade, sustainability is not just an option, it is a responsibility. Every effort we make, no matter how small, drives meaningful change towards a better future. It is inspiring to be part of a movement that is shaping the future of aviation, proving that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand to create a lasting impact.
There are tremendous opportunities for women to thrive in the cargo sector of aviation, with room for growth in leadership and impactful roles. For example, seeing two women in the highest leadership positions at Air France and KLM fuels my ambition to pursue a career in aviation, particularly within Air France-KLM. Their journey has shown me that with determination, passion, and resilience, there are no limits to what women can achieve in this industry.
But my journey is much more than cargo— it’s about creating opportunities. Optimizing e-commerce operations for streamlined trade and logistics across Saudi Arabia laid a crucial foundation for tackling the severe impacts of the pandemic. From pioneering the New Global Sport Conference to playing a role in the record-breaking Hajj Hackathon, I’ve always believed in pushing boundaries and driving change.
On International Women’s Day, I celebrate the fearless women stepping into new spaces, rewriting the rules, and proving that no industry is out of reach.
